FAQ's
How long does a consultation last?
We spend as much time as necessary with each patient to provide the optimal level of care. The importance of getting to know a new patient, and gaining a thorough overview of their medical and family history cannot be underestimated and, as such, Dr Ines will spend a little more time than usual with a new patient.
How do online consultations work?
Online consultations are becoming increasingly popular and are the ideal option for conditions that do not require a physical examination. Once you have booked your appointment, we will send you a simple questionnaire for you to complete which will ensure that we have all the necessary information ahead of time, so that we can focus on your health concerns during the consultation itself. We will also supply you with payment instructions and, upon receipt of payment, you will receive a second email confirming your consultation date and time.
Do you provide GP services for expats?
As a fully integrated member of the local community, and with over two decades of experience working in Portugal’s private and public health systems, Dr Inês is ideally suited to meet the primary care needs of expatriates. From providing guidance and orientation should patients need to access the SNS (the Portuguese Nation Health System), to help in obtaining a driving licence, creating a living will, and arranging travel vaccinations, Dr Ines’ thorough understanding of the culture and medical system in Portugal is invaluable to nationals, long-term residents and newcomers alike.
Do you accept patients from outside Algarve?
Of course. As a private, specialist clinic, NeuroLoulé welcomes patients from all over Portugal and abroad. Whilst many of our regular patients are based in and around Loulé, Faro, Almancil, the Golden Triangle, Vilamoura and Boliqueime, a large number also visit from other regions of Portugal and Spain.
What if I divide my time between two or more countries?
It is not uncommon for some of our patients to travel between several countries throughout the year. Our streamlined, online consultations allow you to maintain your relationships with our doctors and specialists, ensuring an essential level of continuity in your healthcare requirements. Whether you are spending time in South America, North America, Africa or Europe, NeuroLoulé provides peace of mind and smooth, uninterrupted care.
How long before travelling should I book my travel vaccination consultation?
The sooner the better. We recommend that you contact us as soon as you make the decision to travel. Once you supply us with information relating to date and destination, we can schedule a vaccination program for you to ensure your travel plans go smoothly.
Do I need a referral from a GP to see a specialist?
You are always welcome to book specialist consultations directly. However, there are times when a patient is unsure which speciality will best address their concerns. In this instance, an initial consultation with a primary care doctor can save you time and money by ensuring you are matched with the correct specialist for your condition.
Can I book same-day consultations for urgent medical situations?
Generally, it is possible for patients with acute symptoms to get an urgent appointment on the same day. Please contact us beforehand to check that Dr.Inês is available.
Sometimes, depending on the level of urgency, you may find a visit to your nearest hospital is the better option. Further information about what to do in the case of a medical emergency, can be found here.
Do you do home visits?
In some instances, it is preferable or necessary for the well-being of an existing patient to receive a visit from a doctor in the comfort of their own home. Often, a consultation conducted online, or via telephone, is the perfect choice. Please get in touch to discuss your options.
